Elias in ICU - Message and Photo from Jon

Here is a photo of Elias resting while in ICU. Right now, he can’t have anything to eat or drink while they wait to see if nausea sets in or not. Poor guy can only have a couple tiny sips of water, ice chips, or have his mouth swabbed with a mouth sponge. He is really tired, but in great spirits. His voice is weak, but he still manages to bust out in several jokes. He said his neck was hurting a #6 on a scale from 1-10. He also said that the last thing he remembers was playing Mario Brothers and then waking up after the surgery. Phew! He doesn’t remember me giving him a wet willy and a noogie — just kidding of course ;) Keep holding him in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and quick adjustment to the neck brace he will have to wear for awhile. We are so excited that he doesn’t have to wear a halo :)

I am so happy to hear that the surgery went well! You are in such good hands over at Shriner’s. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

  2. Elias, you are in my heart and prayers. You are a really great friend and person. When you
are feeling better, please call me at 916-941-3773. I would like to see you when you are
ready. I hope you will be able to come back to class soon. I really miss you. Have a
great Thanksgiving. I’m going to send you a card and present. Maybe I can come see you
over Christmas vacation. If you are going to be in the hospital a long time, then I can
come visit you there. I hope you feel better soon! You are one of a kind!

    Love’
    Jade

  3. A day

    Long before the sun rose,
it was already the longest day ever.

There was too much to do and the morning went quick,
    still the longest day ever.

Focused on the worries, concerns - did we eat, drink,
who knows how long the day would be.

Clock now ticked slow, friends assembled,
not too many hugs, nor words.

Little familiar voices almost made one forget,
one is quiet behind a closed door.

    Doors open, happy words
    tears held, smiles not.

Attention turned to thing that can be done,
    parenting begins again.

Where did the day go, the time, the feelings,
washed away, tomorrow a new day.
